Lockers Buyers Guide
Might you benefit from having lockers?
There are a number of situations where your business could benefit from installing lockers. They are a storage solution for personal belongings, work paraphernalia, or even shared items in communal areas.
Reasons you may consider Lockers
You are considering moving to, or have already transitioned to, hot desking – Hot Desking, if you haven’t already heard, is where employees don’t have an assigned desk and instead choose an available desk when they arrive at the office and work there for the day. It is becoming clearer that workers are less productive when they work in the same place all day, every day, so this flexibility makes for a more fluid and dynamic work environment which boosts productivity. However, people still need somewhere to store their equipment and belongings safely when they aren’t working, and lockers provide just that.
You have part-time staff who could desk share – if you have employees who are in the office intermittently, due to hybrid working schedules or who frequently travel as part of the job, there is probably no need for each of them to have their own desk. Lockers are far more space efficient in giving these employees somewhere to keep their things without leaving a desk empty for an extended period. This system could enable you to downsize your office space, and therefore rent spend, making the locker option the more cost-effective solution.
Or, if your current space is becoming unbearably cluttered – even if your staff do have allocated desks, you will need a designated space to encourage the storage of personal belongings or infrequently used items not to live on and around their desks. An uncluttered office engenders a calmer, more focused and productive mindset by clearing the space of visual distractions.
What kind of locker do you need?
If you have concluded that you would benefit from a locker system, here are some things to consider:
What you will be using them for? – do you need internal shelving for books? Or, perhaps, hooks for outerwear? Do you require full-length lockers for larger items like bags and coats? Or do you only need to store documents, laptops, notebooks, and other small items, so smaller lockers will suffice?
Where the lockers will be placed in your office? – where is the most convenient position to maximise usage?
How much, and what kind of, room do you have to spare? – do you have more horizontal or vertical room to play with? Is there an empty wall by the door?
What kind of lock you want? – most commonly, lockers have key locks, combination locks, or digital locks, each offering a different level of security; consider your budget and security requirements when choosing a lock type.
